Firstly, what is Bianor’s role in the NeoGiANT project?
The use of polyphenol-rich extracts in semen extenders has two immediate benefits:
Felipe Martínez Pastor is a Professor at the University of León. He studied for a degree in Biology and did his PhD at the University of León. His thesis was on the characterization of the spermatozoa of the Iberian red deer (2004), collaborating with other lines of research on salmonids, small ruminants, and brown bears. He continued his research at the University of Castilla La-Mancha and the Instituto de Investigación en Recursos Cinegéticos (IREC).
His lines of research continued to focus on the spermatozoa of red deer and sheep, carrying out collaborations with the Marine Science Centre of Faro (Portugal) and the Zoological Society of Chicago. He continued as a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the University of León (2009) with projects on small ruminant spermatology, the role of melatonin in male reproductive function, and sperm chromatin structure in pigs. In 2019 he promoted the technology-based company Bianor Biotech with Dr. Beatriz Martín. During his career, he has published more than 120 scientific articles and has participated as an inventor in four patents.
Bianor Biotech S.L. is constituted in 2019 as a Technology-Based Company of the University of León, promoted by professors Beatriz Martín Fernández and Felipe Martínez Pastor, from the Cell Biology Area. Bianor is constituted with the mission to provide sperm analysis services in the human clinical and animal production sectors, and to provide scientific consultancy and R&D support.
Bianor’s objective is to become an innovative company through the execution of R&D projects in the biotechnology sector. Currently, Bianor provides services and executes R&D projects for about twenty companies, as well as participating in the NeoGiANT project.
