On January 27th, from 10:00 to 11:00, the first BlueFeed Cluster webinar successfully took place, marking the official launch of this collaborative initiative bringing together several Horizon Europe projects committed to advancing a more sustainable, resilient, and innovative aquaculture and feed sector.
This inaugural webinar had an introductory focus, aiming to present the scope, objectives, and areas of expertise of each participating project, while laying the groundwork for future collaboration and knowledge exchange within the cluster.
Each project delivered a short presentation outlining its main goals and contributions:
NeoGiANT, focused on developing natural antimicrobial and antioxidant solutions to reduce the use of antibiotics in farmed animals.
POLYPUFA, working on sustainable sources of omega-3 fatty acids for animal feed.
SwitchFloc, exploring advanced biofloc systems to enhance efficiency and circularity in aquaculture production.
ActFast, dedicated to developing strategies and technologies to help aquaculture adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Microbiomes4Soy, investigating the role of microbiomes in more sustainable food and feed systems, with a strong focus on soybean-based solutions.
EUAqua.Org, addressing integrative breeding strategies to support the transition towards organic and sustainable aquaculture in Europe.
Together, these presentations highlighted the complementarity and diversity of the projects, covering key topics such as animal health and welfare, sustainable nutrition, climate resilience, circular economy approaches, and innovation uptake by the aquaculture sector.
This first webinar served as a starting point for strengthening collaboration within the BlueFeed Cluster. The next cluster meeting is planned for February, where discussions will move towards more in-depth technical topics and concrete opportunities for synergy among the projects.
