Porto, 29th and 30th May 2023 – The 3rd General Assembly of the NeoGiANT H2020 project was conducted in Portugal last May, marking significant progress in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in animal production. Over the course of the two-day meeting held in Porto, more than 50 partners attended in person to witness the latest advances and breakthroughs presented and discuss the following steps of the project.
The NeoGiANT H2020 project aims to develop and validate groundbreaking natural formulations with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties derived from the valorization of white grape marc. These formulations will be targeted for use in cattle, swine, poultry, and farmed fish production, focusing on the areas of feeding, health, and reproduction. The project’s overarching objective is to reduce the reliance on antibiotics in animal and aquaculture production, thereby combating the growing threat of AMR.
Antimicrobial resistance occurs naturally over time due to genetic changes. However, the misuse and overuse of antibiotics have accelerated this process, endangering the achievements of Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals. The NeoGiANT project recognizes the urgency of addressing this issue and intends to provide viable alternatives to curb the inappropriate use of antibiotics in animal husbandry.
The project extends an invitation to farmers to join the NeoGiANT community and contribute to the shared mission of combating antimicrobial resistance. As a farmer, becoming part of the NeoGiANT community presents an opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge regarding the significance of non-synthetic antibiotics and the pressing issue of AMR in animal production.
NeoGiANT is present both on LinkedIn and Twitter to make sure their followers stay informed about the latest developments, upcoming events, and success stories in the project.
Take the chance and exchange experiences and knowledge about the importance of finding sustainable alternatives to reduce AMR.
