The NeoGiANT project took center stage at the International Conference on Production Diseases in Farm Animals (ICPD) with a series of impactful scientific contributions and a dedicated workshop. From cutting-edge research presentations to real-world applications on farms, NeoGiANT is proving that natural solutions can reshape the future of animal health by reducing reliance on antibiotics.
NeoGiANT partners shared their latest findings through engaging oral presentations:
Xinyi Huang (Moredun Research Institute) – Grapevine’s ancient wisdom: could this be the answer to tackle bovine mastitis?
Lara Touza Otero (ID Farma) – Bio-Adhesive Polyphenolic Formulations: Redefining Exudative Epidermitis Treatment in Swine
Tommy van Limbergen (Anitom) – Less Antibiotics, Healthier Birds: The Power of Coaching in Poultry Production
Each talk highlighted innovative strategies to improve animal health and welfare through bio-based, polyphenolic formulations that reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
In addition, NeoGiANT researchers presented posters showcasing promising results:
Aly Castillo (i-Grape) – Bioactive Grape Marc Extracts Rich in Phenolic Compounds as Functional Ingredients in Animal Welfare and Nutrition
Marta Lores (LIDSA) – NeoGiANT – Innovative solutions based on natural antimicrobial and antioxidant extracts to reduce the use of antibiotics in farmed animals
These contributions underline NeoGiANT’s multidisciplinary approach, merging natural product chemistry, veterinary science, and practical applications.
NeoGiANT partners i-Grape, LIDSA, and ID Farma visited Anitom’s poultry facilities in Belgium to explore the on-site trials with NeoGiANT formulations. This visit provided an opportunity to see how the project’s innovations are being applied in real farming environments, contributing to healthier animals and more sustainable practices.
As part of the ICPD program, NeoGiANT hosted its own workshop, bringing together experts to share project milestones and future directions. Moderated by Marta Lores (University of Santiago de Compostela), the workshop covered key research areas:
Welcome and Introduction – Marta Lores
Overview of NeoGiANT’s mission to fight AMR and workshop objectives.
WP2: Grape Marc Extracts – Patricia Díaz
Development of functional ingredients and animal welfare-oriented prototypes.
WP4: Small-Scale Feeding Applications – Anniek Bus
Assessment of antimicrobial formulations for practical feeding trials.
WP5: Disease Treatment Formulations – Xinyi Huang
Advances in formulations for infection treatment and their potential impact.
WP7: Gut and Immune System Impact – Stephanya Corral
Insights into how these formulations affect gut microbiota and immunity.
WP9: Market & Legal Requirements – Geert Bruggeman
Strategies for market readiness and regulatory pathways.
Open Q&A Session
An interactive space for participants to engage with speakers.
NeoGiANT’s presence at ICPD 2025 showcased how science, innovation, and collaboration can lead to sustainable alternatives in animal health. With natural polyphenolic extracts and advanced formulations, the project is paving the way for healthier animals and a safer food chain.
Stay tuned! We’ll soon share more about NeoGiANT’s upcoming workshop and exciting developments.

Take the chance and exchange experiences and knowledge about the importance of finding sustainable alternatives to reduce AMR.
